The Reviews for 2007
“The atmosphere is excellent. It’s such a well put-together festival. The music is good, the food is good, and there’s even a Pimms bus, which is excellent. What more do you need?” Oxford Mail, 9th July
“This is the fourth Cornbury. It’s getting bigger every year but it’s still the most charming festival you’ll ever attend. There’s a cool fairground for the kids, Sunday rolls in the Oxford Folk Festival, the main stage is set in an idyllic valley and among the celebs ligging today are Alex James and Postman Pat.” NME, 9th July
“There is nothing to compare with Cornbury. It’s the only rock festival for all ages where your day won’t be dented by demented jugglers and your night by rave-pixies, playing dance music in the campsite.” Mark Ellen, Editor of The Word
“It’s been hard work – very hard work. But it’s certainly the best ever. Everyone has had a great time. Cornbury has come in to its own and is certainly here to stay.” Hugh Phillimore, Festival Promoter
“It’s certainly the nicest festival I have ever been to. I’ve just finished recovering from Glastonbury, and to be honest, you couldn’t get a more different festival. The whole atmosphere is lovely.” Punter from Cornbury 2007
“Cornbury is a delightful festival in breathtaking grounds. The choice of drink is much better than most on the calendar and musically it’s pushing the right buttons for the right crowds.” Virtual Festivals, 10th July
“This was the year when the Cornbury Music Festival came of age. Attendances were up 5000 from last year on Saturday, the sun shone hot, the music was sensational and the ambience of the whole event was chilled. Don’t worry, be happy. Every year it gets better. Long may it continue.” BBC Oxford Online, 10th July
“The thing that makes Cornbury Festival stand out is its setting. The manicured rolling wooded Cotswold parkland makes such a spectacular backdrop and with the plentiful hot air balloons you find your spirits being uplifted.” BBC Oxford Online, 10th July
“Cornbury is very much a family event, with entertainment for everyone, from little kids to their grandparents. Indeed I think my abiding memory was during the Echo & The Bunnymen set. In the audience were two forty something guys, clearly there to see their teenage idols. And on their shoulders were a couple of nippers – they could have been no more than three years old – bopping along and clapping in time to The Killing Moon. Priceless.” Swindon Advertiser, 10th July
“The cleanest, cosiest and classiest fest” Marie Claire, 10th July
“With a powerful line up, stunning scenery, thrilling amusements and lashings of beer, the 4th Cornbury Festival in Oxfordshire proved to be a truly awesome summer family festival. The combination of a weekend of camping in a clean and well organised environment, coupled with two days of music that even made the oldies jump up and down and enough tasty food and drink to leave you feeling spoilt for choice, this is one festival not to be missed.
Upon entering the grounds for the festival it’s hard not to be inspired by the breathtaking rolling countryside and stunning views that Cornbury Park has to offer… Cornbury has to be one of the best settings known for any festival.
They say that quality is simply attention to detail, well this festival was certainly well thought through. From the strings of white lights erected in the campsite that lit the pathways in the early hours of the night, to the amazing full size circus tent in the main field where the Oxford folk festival stage was held, to the musical line-up, this really is an extremely well organised event. Well done Hugh Phillimore and all the team”. Folking.com, 11th July
“Cornbury Festival was ‘best ever’.” Witney Gazette, 11th July
“I’m really really happy with the way the show went – it was one of the most enjoyable shows I’ve ever done.” David Ford, 11th July
“From the moment that you arrive at the estate you cannot help but be impressed by the beauty of the surroundings chosen for the event. This is a great family event with all adequately catered for, from tots to grandparents, with a feeling that you are in a friendly and safe environment.
The promoter and originator Hugh Phillimore came to the stage fleetingly on two occasions and said only very few words. But the happy and safe visitors, the beauty of the surroundings and the overall ambience, spoke volumes for him and his achievements.” BBC Gloucestershire Online, 13th July
“The Oxfordshire festival, Cornbury, is rapidly establishing itself as one of the most relaxed family-friendly music events of the summer.” Et Now.com, 18th July
“Cornbury 2007 – probably the best yet.
Ah Cornbury. Great music, great entertainment and rather surprisingly great weather. And what this festival adds to the season of festivals is an event suitable for young and old (and everyone in between) alike, even Blondie was declaring her love of the Cornbury crowd.” What’s On West Oxfordshire, August
“So a few people have asked me if I enjoyed the Cornbury Festival, at which we played last Saturday, and the answer is “yes I did”. It was beautifully organised, convivial in atmosphere, and the audience struck me as the most natural Waterboys festival audience we’ve played to this Summer….. It seemed quite a magical event, and it bores me silly to read media types carping on about it being a posh festival. What rot! It is more accurate to describe Cornbury as a quintessentially English event – good natured, inclusive, slightly eccentric and with echoes both of an old country fayre and a garden party about it.” Mike Scott, The Waterboys, 11th July
“Mr Hugh Phillimore should be heartily congratulated for this year’s Cornbury Music Festival, the fourth, and the biggest and best yet. Cornbury is rapidly growing into a “must do” event in Oxfordshire’s annual calendar. Set in the grounds of the picturesque Cornbury Park this had something for everyone – talk about variety…..
The main reason for attending was the music. This year the calibre of the artists performing was top drawer, as was the atmosphere which accompanied the whole event.”
Oxygen, August/September edition
“Proclaimers proclaimed, Waterboys cavorted, Bunnymen smoked in confined spaces, hog roasts and fish curries were consumed and wide-eyed infants strolled in their own private garden fête. Huzzah!” The Word, September 2007
